FIANNA FAIL is at war nationally – and tonight it is at war within the party in Donegal North East, donegaldaily.com has learned.
A number of senior party members are bidding to oust Senator Cecilia Keaveney from the party, we have learned.
And the first part of shafting her seems to have worked – with Keaveney threatening to run as an independent after insisting she will not attend a Fianna Fail selection convention this Thursday.
She claimed she wasn’t even told about a party meeting in Inishowen at the weekend.
And it’s no secret that senior Fianna Fail members in the constituency don’t want her on the ticket with Niall Blaney.
Asked if her future even lay with Fianna Fail, Senator Keaveney would only say: “That’s for another day.
It was reported that a meeting of Inishowen Fianna Fáil members was held on Sunday night at which three people, Cllr Rena Donaghey, Senator Cecilia Keaveney and Cllr Charlie McConalogue were nominated.
Cllr Donaghey is said to have withdrawn her name, saying she would support the choice made at the convention.
However Keaveney says she was only told of the meeting this morning and would not attend the meeting at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Thursday.
