There is hope this evening that 40 of the 124 jobs lost at Gallagher’s Bakery in Ardara can be saved.
The hope comes after management at the company met the board of Údarás na Gaeltachta.
The company has said it is willing to facilitate the transfer of the fresh-baked products business and its assets to a new owner.
If this were to occur, 40 jobs would be maintained at the factory in Ardara.
Senator Brian O’Domhnaill, who is also a member of Údarás na Gaeltachta, said three companies were interested in taking over the Donegal facility.
The area was devstated this week when 124 out of the 190 jobs at the plant were lost.
