TWO more shops have closed in Letterkenny – but it’s not all bad news.
Classic Casuals and Unique have pulled down the shutters for the last time at Letterkenny Shopping Centre.
Classic Casuals’ well-known outlet on the town’s Main Street is still open and trading well.
Toni Forrester, chief executive of Letterkenny Chamber, said there was mixed news in the town.
She said it was sad that more jobs had been lost, but insisted the Chamber is working around the clock to promote Letterkenny.
Ms Forrester also revealed that the Shop LK inititive had been a huge success – with €500,000 worth of vouchers sold since its launch just over four years ago.
“It is always sad when a business closes because of the impact on those who own the business and their employees,” she said.
“There is definitely mixed news in retail with footfall down and spend per customer down but there is also excellent value for money and we are promoting the town wherever and whenever we can.
“The Shop LK vouchers scheme has been a massive success because that shows people are shopping locally and when people do shop locally, they are supporting and creating local jobs.”
