FIANNA FAIL has selected Manorcunningham man Paul Canning to take the seat on Donegal County Council vacated by newly-elected TD Charlie McConalogue.
At a party meeting last night, there was huge support for Canning who was just 40 votes from being elected at the last local elections.
Mr McConalogue said: “Paul is an excellent choice and I have no doubt that he will be a superb county councillor who will work hard for all the people.”
Meanwhile Sinn Fein have replaced Padraig MacLochlainn with Burnfoot man Jack Murray.
He is a youth worker at Abhaile Arís in Letterkenny. He was appointed press officer for Sinn Féin in Donegal – playing a central role in the party’s successful election campaigns in both constituencies in the county.
Mr MacLochlainn said: “Jack is extremely passionate about politics and about Donegal. Having watched the majority of his school friends emigrate he is driven to bring about job creation in Inishowen in order to stem the tide of youth emigration.
“With his reputation as a hard worker and a man with integrity, I have no doubt that he will be a great representative for Inishowen.”
