On Sunday 5th Portsalon Golf club staged the Willie Duffy Memorial Cup. The early golfers got the best of the day as rain soon spread across the ‘’Banks’ to leave conditions poor for good golf. The results were as follows; 1st Sean Barrett 37 points, 2nd James Mc Fadden Letterkenny 37 points, Gross John Shields 31 points, 3rd Pat Green 37 points. The Captain Donal Callaghan would like to express his and the clubs thanks to the Duffy family for their sponsorship of the competition.
There was a large turnout for the prestigious Barton Cup which was staged at Portsalon Golf Course on Monday last. Playing in ideal weather conditions the competitors teed off from 8 a.m. In the final it was a case for the young guns of Portsalon as Ryan Mc Gettigan was pitched against Enda Mc Elhinney. The match was indeed a close affair and after nine holes it was all square and the pair had to go the second play off holes to determine the victor. The overall Barton Cup winner foe 2011 was Ryan Mc Gettigan. For all who were defeated in the earlier rounds they played out for the Mc Menamin Plate, the winner was Sam Faulkner. The captain Donal Callaghan would like to express his and the clubs thanks to Barton Cup committee who ran the event this year.
On Saturday 11th there is an open gents stableford competition. Sunday the tee is reserved for the GUI event, and on Wednesday15th July a gents 18 hole stableford open competition. The Portsalon Donegal League team travelled to Redcastle on Sunday last fro the return leg of the first round match. Having obtained five matches in the first leg the Portsalon team only need to half the match to advance to the next round. The final two matches were called in which saw Portsalon advance to the next round.
The return leg of the over 50’s match against Donegal Golf Club (Murvagh) will take place at Portsalon on Monday 13th with a tee reserved from 4.30 for the match. The home team will have a lot to do to overturn the result of the first leg.

Members and visitors should note that the tee is reserved on Sunday 12th July for the GUI qualifying competition The Barton Shield. The tee will also be reserved on Friday evening for a preliminary round match where Rosapenna will take on Letterkenny’
