A well-known Letterkenny man who took ill in a swimming pool while holidaying in Portugal has died.
Former nurse and tutor Hugh McFadden died yesterday afternoon after being flown back to Donegal by air ambulance.
He had remained on a life support machine for a number of days until yesterday.
Mr McFadden, 71, who was originally from Kerrykeel, had lived in the Gortlee area for many years where he was a retired Behavioural Therapist.
Mr McFadden was on a golfing holiday with former work colleagues and other staff from Letterkenny General Hospital when he became unwell.
His wife Vera and his two daughters flew out to Portugal to be by his bedside.
One of his daughters is due to be married shortly.
Mr McFadden also has two sons – John, a well-known local Garda and James, a radiographer at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The late Mr McFadden was very well-known in many circles in Letterkenny and beyond and was a former captain of Letterkenny Golf Club.
