DONEGAL ratepayers could be out of pocket to the tune of tens of thousands of euro because of a legal case being brought by local solicitor Dessie Shiels.
Shiels – a failed election candidate – has decided to challenge the co-option of independent councillor Michael McBride onto Donegal County Council in place of outgoing councillor Jimmy Harte.
That means the council has to defend the action – which could cost a small fortune.
If the council were to lose the case, we will all be left to pick up the bill.
However if the council wins the case – and sources believe they will – Shiels will have to foot the bill.
