BY HAZEL RUSSELL: Plans were in place, the i’s were dotted, and all was organised! However, unfortunately the only winner on Sunday in this golf competition was the weather!
When the committee congregated at the Letterkenny Town Park early Sunday morning to discuss final arrangements with the helicopter pilot, Town Gardener David Donnelly and undertake the mammoth task of getting all of the bunting, gig rig and infrastructure into place, it was reluctantly unanimously agreed by all parties concerned that there was no alternative but to postpone the event!
Due to the serious amount of rainfall overnight, it was felt that the ground would not have permitted footfall, never mind the adverse weather forecast scheduled for the afternoon, going right through the night and into early Monday because of the effects of Hurricane Katia.
Modern technology to the rescue and all stake holders and artistes were quickly notified so as to cause as little disruption as possible. Hopefully intending patrons were not inconvenienced too much! Luckily too that all of the wonderful sponsored items and prizes are of a non perishable nature, and therefore no loss was sustained by this postponement.
The good news is that the entire Family Fun Day and Golf Ball Drop has been rescheduled for Sunday 25th September, so if you have failed to secure a ticket for this fantastic draw, then please contact any member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club or indeed the charities, Cairde le Cheile, Down Syndrome or Letterkenny Youth Club. Indeed, the extra time could help ensure that all of the fun activities may be enhanced further, or indeed an opportunity to source new and exciting entertainment for the gig rig……….time will tell!
