THREE of Buncrana’s schools will merge on to one site, if a local councillor gets his way.
Cllr Ciaran McLaughlin says merging Crana College, the Gael Cholaiste and the gaelscoil in the town onto a 3-in-1 campus is the only way forward for education in the town.
And he says he fully supports the VEC in its efforts to bring the plans to reality.
“Donegal VEC is currently working to secure a site in Buncrana for the campus development and they have secured a department engineer to view sites in the town, so it is top priority with the VEC to progress this project and Buncrana Town Council are lending their support to the development encorporating all schools,” he told donegaldaily.com.
“Crana College is on a very restricted site, it’s in a residential area and there have been parking difficulites there.
“The gaelscoil and gael cholaiste are both in temporary accomodiation and enrolment at the gaelscoil is increasing every year and at the moment parking at the gaelscoil is not available due to ongoing construction at the youth club and the parents have to park outside and walk their children some 500 yards to get to school as they can’t park in the school.
“So my top priorty is the gael scoil and gael cholaiste who badly need a permanent home and hopefully the VEC can obtain a campus in Buncrana incorporating the three schools and I would welcome this first step in achieving something which will have a huge benefit for the entire area for many years to come.”
