DONEGAL is back on flood alert again today as the county continues to take a battering from heavy rain and gale-force winds.
Many roads are flooded, particularly in rural areas, prompting repeated calls from the Road Safety Authority and AA Ireland for motorists to be extremely cautious.
The worst of the heavy showers and rain will be in the North West again today and over the weekend, said Met Eireann.
Flooded roads are reported to donegaldaily.com today in and around Letterkenny, Ramelton, Milford, Glenties, Lifford, Donegal Town, some parts of Gaoth Dobhair, some back roads near Pettigo and several areas of Inishowen.
“We would once again urge motorists to slow down on the roads of Co Donegal today,” said a Garda spokesman.
“Motorists should use dipped headlights and be mindful that large pools of water may be on some roads and this can be hazardous. Expect the unexpected.”
GoSafe speed detection vans are operating in several places again today at locations where there have been serious accidents causing injuries or fatalities.
