IT’S an incredible picture which sums up the pride, power and passion of two of Co Donegal’s top athletes.
Daniel Mooney and Ruairi Finnegan both run for Letterkenny Athletics Club.
And today they ran against each other in the Woodie’s DIY Irish Senior Championships in Belfast.
Daniel took the lead with 300m remaining of the 1,500m and never looked like being caught as he raced to his first national title in a time of 3:52.83.
The race produced the Letterkenny 1-2 when junior Ruairi Finnegan battled strongly on the last lap to overtake Conor Bradley from City of Derry AC.
All three were presented their medals by Olympic gold legend Mary Peters.
And when the battle was over, the team-mates embraced each other.
There were other star Donegal performers.
Mary McLoone (Tir Chonaill AC) won the triple jump with a best of 12.47m to add to her long jump silver from Day 1.
