If you have not seen this van in the Dunfanaghy, Dungloe, Falcarragh, Gweedore or the Rosses areas of Donegal it could be said that you have probably not spent a lot of time on the road in the past 3 years.
Gaoth Dobhair native Brian Mac Gairbhigh has been running his Computer repair business in these areas for the last 3 years. Brian has previously worked in the LYIT computing department, a computer repair business in Letterkenny and with local government agency Údarás na Gaeltachta repairing computers and providing network hardware and software support.
His van is a very familiar site on the roads of Donegal as he has been providing a low cost mobile computer repair service to homes and businesses in these areas and has admitted himself to being told by customers that they “sometimes see him on the road 2 or 3 times a day”.
Brian operates his home based business from a state of the art computer repair workshop mainly repairing Laptop and Desktop computers and admits that it has been tough starting and operating a business in the worst recession in living memory.
“I have received little or no help or support from any government agency in the current or previous government which had been disappointing as they continuously talk about turning Ireland into knowledge based economy and creating Information Technology based jobs which is exactly what I do.
“However my work has its own rewards such as helping stressed out and very worried business people that have lost data from a hard-drive crash or computer virus infection and helping them to get there business up and running again as quickly as possible.
“Most businesses now heavily rely on and cannot run there day to day operations without the use of their office computer. I have also recovered photos and important documents for families such as photos with great sentimental value and even the odd Thesis or two. Business and home users fail to carry out regular backups and do not realise that it’s not a question of IF the hard drive in their computer will fail but WHEN!”
Brian’s company TECHIE2U Mobile Computer Repairs has a very varied customer base and Brian says he enjoys the daily challenge of I.T. based problem solving and meeting new customer’s everyday from all walks of life, home users right up to large companies with no I.T. Department and even some famous people too.
