Voucher Sunday
One of the biggest and most eagerly awaited competitions of the golfing season at Portsalon Golf club will take place on Sunday 1st April as the members will contest for what has now become voucher Sunday. The prize on offer will be free golf at Portsalon Golf Club in 2013. In order to play in this major golfing event, members must be fully paid up or have a minimum of one instalment paid towards their 2012 golfing fees before commencement of play.
Match Play
Time is running out if you have not already entered this seasons singles match play event at Portsalon Golf Club. In order to be in a position to win this amazing prize of free subscription for 2013 all you have to do is enter your name pay the entry fee of €15 and await the draw closing date Saturday 31st March. Remember no entry fee no entry. The main prize will be dependent on numbers entering the competition.
Events
On Saturday 31st March there is an open gents competition and on Sunday 1st April a members competition voucher Sunday . On Wednesday 4th April a gents open competition. As Easter is fast approaching Portsalon golf club have arranged a host of competitions.. On Good Friday there is a three ball competition any combination, On Saturday it’s a ladies and gents open competition sponsored by Mc Chormick’s Pharmacy Milford, on Easter Sunday it’s a ladies and gents open and Monday it’s a Ladies and Gents open. Gaeltacht League
On Sunday last Donal Callaghan lead his team to Cruit Island Golf Club for the rescheduled match following its earlier cancellation a few week back. Playing ideal weather conditions as the sun shine blazed across the picturesque island, the course was looking its best. The travelling Portsalon team emerged with a magnificent eight matches to Cruit Isalnds two matches. In the overall prizes Portsalon had a clean sweep with Paddy Sheridan and Cathal Toland winners, Shaun Shields and Tony Kingston runner up and Stephen Connolly and Pascal Cullen third. Portsalon have now played four matches and have 59 points. On Saturday 31st March the Portsalon Gaeltacht team will travel to Dunfanaghy golf club and team members are reminded that the tee off is at 8.30 a.m The remaining fixture is away to Cloughaneeley which will be played on 14th April. The Gaeltacht Captain’s Day is scheduled for Sunday 21st April and this will be played at Nairn Portnoo golf course
Portsalon Winter Links
On Saturday last Portsalon Golf club staged the Portsalon Winter Links Captain’s Day.
The event was played in bluster weather which left conditions poor for the entrants to display their true golfing talents. The overall winner of the Captain’s prize was Eamon Mc Dermott (3) with 37 points. In the Nett section the winner was John Doran Letterkenny with 35 points, 2nd Tony Morrison 34 points, 3rd Chuck Mc Taggart 32 points 3th P Hannigan B/S 32 points. In the gross section the winner was Connor Connolly 29 points 2nd D Mc Gough Letterkenny 28 points, 3rd D P Logue 28 points 4th Seamus Patton 26 points. The golfer of the year titles went to Eamon Mc Dermott in the net section and Stephen Connolly in the gross section. The club captain D P Logue would like to thank all who participated and helped to make it yet another successful competition.
Results
The winner of the open staged on Wednesday 21st last was Dermott Coll (18) 43 points, 2nd Joe Hensey (12) 39 points, Gross Enda Mc Menamin B/S (3) 30 points 3rd Tony Morrison (16) 39 points. The CSS was 37 points. The Winner of the Sunday members competition was Chris Williams (13) 68, 2nd James Durning (22) 71 Gross Rory Kenney ( 87, The CSS was 74
Subscriptions
The council wish to remind all members that their fees for the 2012 golfing year are now due. In order to play on Sunday remember you must be fully paid up or a minimum of one instalment paid towards their 2012 golfing fees before commencement of play.
Sympathy
The Captain D P Logue and members of Portsalon Golf Club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to the family and members Nairn Portnoo Golf Club on the sudden death of Connor Mallon RIP. On our many visits to Nairn/Portnoo Golf Club, Portsalon members were always greeted and welcomed by Connor. A true golfing professional who will not be forgotten by many of his friends at Portsalon golf club. May he rest in peace.
Change to Drop Off arrangements
Members and visitors should note that you must drop off the fairways 2,7 and 9 at the nearest point of relief as this has now been designated ground under repair. Under a local rule all golf balls in the areas identified must be lifted and dropped without penalty. It is no longer permitted to use the putter inside the areas identified.
All members are kindly asked to keep all pull trolleys, electric trolleys and drive buggies outside the lines surrounding the putting greens. This is try to protect the main playing surfaces as much as possible over the next few weeks..
Placing
All members and visitors should note that six inch placing on all fairways only is in operation at Portsalon Golf Club.

Divot Bags
Members and visitors please note that divot bags are now available on entry to the first tee box. Please ensure that you pick up a bag and assist with the course maintenance
