A BRAVE woman who was the victim of a sex attack carried out by a soldier from Finner camp has spoken out after her attacker was jailed yesterday.
Adrian Gallagher, 32, of East Rock in Ballyshannon, has been thrown out of the army after the incident in October 2009.
He was jailed at the Circuit Court in Donegal town for a year yesterday, with the final six months suspended. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
Gallagher, who had served in the army for 13 years, had followed the young woman from a nightclub in Bundoran, threw her to the ground, punched her in the face and sexually assaulted her.
In a statement last night, Gallagher’s victim said: “I feel numb. I’m not sure at this stage what to think about the sentence. Nothing can change what he did to me that night anyway.
“After it the case going on for over two and a half years and having to hear over and over again what happened kept it fresh in my head.
“I’d love to forget it ever happened but it is hard. I am so glad it is over though. I intend to try to move on now, enjoy life and try to forget.”
In a statement, the Army said Gallagher was no longer in the army.
