No doubt its the same vandals who wreaked the Church.
They have now moved into schools.
But even if they are caught all they will get is a slap on the wrist.
They want to do in Ireland what they do to vandals in Singapore.
In Singapore Under the 1966 Vandalism Act, vandals could be sentenced to three years’ jail, fined a maximum of SGD 2,000 and given a minimum of three strokes of the cane.
For entering a protected place under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act, they can be sentenced to a maximum of two years’ jail and fined up to SGD 1,000 (thats about 650 euro)
But that won’t happen in Ireland, oh no do any bad and you get sent to a holiday camp and can even get paid money while in jail if you happen to work in the prison work shop.
As a civilised society I think the cane is a bit barbaric, the vandals obviously have no breeding, I think it’s down to people to teach their kids right from wrong and not expect fear of caning to deter bad behaviour, what happened to fear of disappointing your parents/ community, society is so afraid of being seen to judge, people think they can do whatever they want! A bit more judging by everyone wouldn’t hurt
Yes Mick — have em flogged. Bring back the death penalty. How about torture as a source of punishment? Put orange jumpsuits on em and make them pick up rubbish by the roadside – humiliation works too!!
Were you an educated man, you would know that those things dont work – they only make things worse.
Your version of a civilised society is quite frankly scary.
It is caused by -
Lack of discipline
Lack of morals
Social inequity
Poverty
Poor education
A divided society
to name but a few.
But when it comes to fixing these issues there is no money ,,,, and its going to get worse i fear.
@Ash.. if only it were that simple i.e ‘people to teach their kids right from wrong’. Unfortunately we live in a society where some parents are far from capable of showing their children respect and manners all because they have none themselves. People will blame the behaviour of children on socio economic reasons but personally I feel, it doesn’t matter what your background or economic circumstances manners are something not determined by where you live or how much money you have. Many families in this country were brought up with less money in years past, smaller houses and mothers and fathers who made sure their children knew respect for themselves and other people. There has been a drop in respect levels, and no fear/respect of gardai or anyone including teachers. Manners cost nothing, .. some parents have alot to answer for, while others are simply incapable of being parents. Yes, boredom and unemployment does play some part, thus you have gangs and wreckless behaviour as above but having lived in cities throughout this country and experienced violence amongst even primary school kids, babies being left in the care of children under 12 ( while sniffing lighter fuel and glue!), parents drinking while their kids run wild outside, one truely does wonder sometimes, why some people are ever allowed to have children. The above type of vandalism is carried out by ‘great fellas’ perfectly aware of what they are doing but do it anyway for kicks… im sorry, but a damn good hiding they won’t forget might just do the trick. The above vandalism and attacks on churches is never acceptable.
tarred and feathered I say myself would be the better solution and the way forward, more effective after a few keen wallops with the sally rod behind the knees, aka the ‘attitude adjuster’

The cane a bit barbaric you say?
Physical pain lingers a lot longer.
It didn’t do anybody at school any harm when it was allowed.
Look at modern socially now.
I call it chaos from lack of discipline and moral up bringing but you say we are a civilised society?
What about people getting knife stabbing in broad daylight, people getting their nose and face bitten off by some junkie or drunk, i could go on….
Yes its a very civilised society we are living in today.

@Mark
Yes the death penaly should be brought back.
It would free up a lot of space in the jails, if someone is jailed for life look at how much money it costs to keep them in jail.
One piece of rope can hang 1000′s. A lot cheaper than keeping them in jail!
Its not the lack of money that is making things worse its the upbringing and lack of discipline.
As a mick myself – please dont lump me in with the other micks.
