DONEGAL County Council has this evening lifted its swimming ban at two of the county’s top beaches as dead fish were washed ashore.
Red flags had been raised at both Murvagh beach and Rossnowlagh, but this has now changed.
An algae bloom – caused naturally in wet weather in the summer – is toxic to marine life.
There are reports that some people have been lifting dead fish from the beaches.
The council has warned people NOT to eat fish from the area.
The bloom is not toxic to humans – but swimming has been banned as a precaution.
