FED-up staff at Letterkenny General Hospital are calling on the public in Co Donegal to take a stand against more cuts – with a mass email attack on Health Minister Dr James Reilly.
Nurses, doctors and support staff at the hospital are banned from speaking out on the latest cuts, despite the hospital being the most efficient in the State.
They have already been warned that they could face disciplinary action if the make public comment on the closure of the gynaecology ward or other €900,000 a month cuts taking place.
But a leading member of staff has spoken to Donegal Daily on behalf of many of them, calling on people to email Mr Reilly at noon today.
“The Minister needs to know how the people of County Donegal feel about these cuts,” said the member of staff.
“Everyone is online and everyone can send a simple email to Mr Reilly. He knows this hospital gets a fraction per patient compared to other hospitals in the State yet we are being forced to take more cuts.
“It’s simply not fair. People need to speak out before healthcare in this county is levelled to the ground by unfair and unjust Government attacks.”
The staff member added: “We are not allowed a voice. We are not allowed to speak out.
“We would urge patients, friends and relatives and the great Donegal public to please be our voices.
“Speak up for Donegal. Stand up for Letterkenny Hospital.”
The staff member called for emails to be entitled as STOP THE CUTS AT LETTERKENNY GENERAL HOSPITAL and for them to be sent from midday today, Tuesday.
