STAFF and patients of Letterkenny General Hospital are hoping its description as a regional facility yesterday might not be a mistake.
Politicians have campaigned for years to have the facility upgraded – leading to a larger budget for its hard-pressed management.
HSE West yesterday issued a press statement announcing the opening of the new medical block at the Co Donegal hospital next Thursday.
And it that release the headline called the site ‘Letterkenny Regional Hospital’.
The same phrase was used in the statement.
And it quotes hospital manager Sean Murphy as saying: “Today’s announcement is a reflection of the Clinical, Managerial, and Trade Union Leadership and Staff commitment that allows Letterkenny Regional Hospital to continue its mission to deliver quality patient care despite the many challenges we currently face.”
Regional status would add up to €2M to the budget of the hospital.
Now staff are wondering if there might be some good news on the horizon – or if it was an error by the HSE West team.
Surely some mistake?
We think we should be told.
