If proper thought had gone into the planning of the towns development we would not have the fears being stressed by the local residents.Building large housing estates and ciy type acomodation next to mature areas where local elderly residents have lived all their life showed a lack of concern for the welfare of our native community from the town. The awful looking flats at the bottom of the town are near 90% occupied by eastern europeans who arrived here illegally and have been facilitated by the state and there has been incidents of serious crime
allegedlyreported within that
area.It is only one area of course but well known.
The recession which has effected so many of us locals like the rest of the country seems to have little concern amongst many of these people ..why ? …because the system allows them to live here comfortably without working while young Irish people have to emigrate fact not fiction.there isno doubt that crime has escalated in my native home town within the last ten years and most of it has been imported by outsiders who have seen the place as easy pickings as many of them came here from larger urban areas where the crime culture is rife. The challenge that lays ahead for local authorities is how do you tackle this problem things are not getting any better with the economy nationally and places like letterkenny are waiting volcanoes products of the former
Celtic Tiger ready to erupt.
@ the townie. It’s wrong to blame foreign nationals for the trouble in the town. Any stabbings, little boy racers or drug dealers mentioned in the papers are usually Irish. Putting the blame on foreigners is petty. I grew up outside the town and have been living in town for over seven years and it’s the rough ‘townies’ that I’m afraid to meet on a dark night. There are gangs of irish youths hanging around the town being intimidating and shouting abuse at passers by. I’ve often avoided the main street at the secondary school lunchtimes or been afraid to walk through a housing estate because of these gangs. Where I live I have many different neighbours; foreign and Irish, and I’m more afraid of my loud Irish neighbours than any of the nice hardworking foreign families. I’m not saying that the Irish are worse, I just disagree that the trouble in town stems from foreigners.
RE;ash I’m well aware of troube being caused by Irish factions aswell and I don’t lay the blame with all our Foreign Nationals as most nationalities are quite law bidding the example being used at the flats area is because I know most locals and they are afraid of the antics that are going on around there some which hasbeen highlighted on national TV.I would agree with you about a lot of others andI can tell you as fact that most of them only arrived here in recent years from other parts of Ireland so it a cross community problem.
I do believe that the boy racer culture stems more from rural dwellers rather than urban they mainly come here to congregate along the Pearse Rd.They can be noisey but I don’t really think thast they have bad intent to harm anyone its a culture morethan anything else.
well said townie. a few boy racers from out of town revving about, is not as damaging as what has happened in the town in recent years, highlighted on national tv.
@ townie & mike. If it wasn’t for us half door people from the country. Yous wouldn’t have a town. Yous have a poisioned town there because yous think yous are better than everyone else. The half door people and foreigners as yous call them are not stealing your jobs. They are doing the jobs that you wasters are too lazy to do. Cos yous think yous are something better. Well look at the all the successful businesses in letterkenny are owned and run by country people. Yous are losers in your own wee poisoned town. FACT.
@ ‘local’ …Not complaining about the country people from out by manor, let them come in and park up and rev theyre wee cars all night, letterkenny is well used to it, they all grow up eventually.
what jobs are you talking about the foreigners doing??? The jobs highlighted on national tv a few months ago?
RE;lOCAL
can’t be to poisoned a town by your claims if so many got a chance to start businesses here and your remarks about lazy town people are way of the mark as i was born and reared in town and very little people if any from our estate was ever on the dole.If you read my remark about boy racers nowhere was i knocking them I simply ststed that it was a culture not a crime in their defence and when you live in a town worked all your life and don’t have the pleasure of farm grants etc to back up your livelihood then you will probably be better informed rather than coming on here knocking people from the town nobody I ever heard in my life think the way you have stated. How dare you call me a waster without having your facts right.
Well they didnt ask me…..
