THE DONEGAL Association in Dublin has named Jim McGuinness as its Person of the Year – in one of the least surprising winners of the coveted award.
Run by Dublin-based people from the county, the Donegal manager had been hot favourite to pick up the gong.
McGuinness said he was ‘honoured’ to have been chosen to be the 2012 recipient of the award.
The Glenties man was honoured at the Mansion House in Dublin for his role in helping to bring the Sam Maguire back to Donegal for the first time in 20 years – and just the second time ever.
Naoise Ó Muirí, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, led tributes to McGuinness who was accompanied at the event by his wife Yvonne.
Jim paid tribute to assistant coach Rory Gallagher, his backroom team and his players.
