COURTS: A man issued with a speeding summons claimed he didn’t pay the fine because he didn’t own the car at the time the speeding offence occurred.

Joseph Kerr, with an address at Glebe, Ballyae, Ramelton said he had sold the car a few days prior to when the speeding offence occurred.

The speeding offence occurred on the 25th of October 2015.

However, the court heard that Mr Kerr had sold the car a few days previously.

Mr Kerr told the court, “I received a speeding summons for an offence which occurred on October 25th, 2015.

“But I sold the car a few days prior to that, and contacted the fella I had sold the car too to tell him that I had received a summons for speeding.

“I was under the belief that he would sort it out and pay the fine.

“I thought it had been sorted, but then I received a summons for court over the non-payment of the fine.”

Judge Paul Kelly struck out the speeding offence against the defendant.
