Courts: Man arrested at Mary Festival with traffic cone on head

July 25, 2016

A 24 year old man who was drunk and waving a traffic cone above his head during the Mary from Dungloe Festival has been fined €200.

Jonathan Bonner, who is from Dungloe but now lives in London, appeared at Letterkenny District Court today.

The court heard how Bonner was asked by Gardai to move along on a number of occasions in the early hours of Sunday morning last.

He was shouting and was intoxicated in the vicinity of several houses and refused to go home.

He then moved into a garden and took a traffic cone and put it above his head.

When Gardai went to arrest him, he became violent.

He was arrested and was put in custody at 5am on Sunday morning.

The court heard how he is employed as a groundsworker in London and earns between £500 and £600 each week.

His solicitor, David Henry said the time spent in custody had been a sobering experiene for his client who only had previous traffic offences.

Judge Paul Kelly ordered Bonner to pay €200 to Pieta House and said he would give the accused the Probation Act.
