The Parent Hub Donegal, a multi-agency working group of the Donegal Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) have launched their website.
The website, launched recently in the Mount Errigal Hotel, has been a key focus of the work of the Parent Hub since their inception in 2013. From the outset the group recognized that there are a vast number of supportive services throughout the county of Donegal but often the extent of available support is not known.
In order to increase access to information to parents and families it was agreed that a one stop shop for parents was the way forward. The ParenthubDonegal Website aims to be that one stop shop.
The Website is a source of information and advice for families, connecting families to services and events across Donegal.
There are currently 240 services up on the site ranging from Ante Natal Services, Breast Feeding Support, Dental Services, Public Health Nursing, Family Resource Centres, Counselling, Youth Services, Family Support Services, Social Work Services to name but a few.
It is hoped to continue to build on the current information to include all community and statutory supports that a child and their family may need to access over the course of their childhood and on into adulthood.
Over the years to come the group hope that no parent in Donegal should feel isolated. In addition to the availability of information on the Website, group members of the Hub are on the ground in different areas to support parents and their children.
Some of the key members of the Hub include ParentStop, Lifestart, SpringBoard, Families Matter, Letterkenny Youth and Family Service, Foroige Teen Parent Support Programme, Tir Boghaine Teo, Spraoi agus Sport, Inishowen Development Partnership, Donegal Local Development Company, Saolta Ante Natal Services, HSE and Tusla.
The Parent Support Programmes which have become widely available across Donegal over the past few years will be advertised on the Website. Next week sees a wide range of Parent Programmes starting up in different locations. The Parents Plus Early Years Programme, for parents of children aged 1-5years, will start in Letterkenny and in Pettigo.
The Parents Plus Childrens Programme, for parents of primary school aged children, will run in Letterkenny, St Johnston and Buncrana. The Parents Plus Adolescent Programme, for parents of teens, will take place in Raphoe, Donegal Town and Milford. Finally, there will be a Parenting When Separated Programme run in Letterkenny.
Finally, the Parent Hub would like to thank students from the Computer Department in LYIT who supported the development of the Website back in the initial stages. The group are very grateful to Lar Thompson who brought the site to its completed level and to Susan Doherty for all the work on inputting services.
