Man walked into shop and walked out with alcohol

A Dublin man has been fined €150 for stealing alcohol from a Ballybofey shop.

Robert Brogan appeared at Letterkenny District Court charged with stealing a bottle of Vodka and a crate of Budweiser from the Costcutters shop on November 28th last.

The 32 year old father of one simply walked into the back of the store, picked up the items and walked out.

He was approached on exiting the store by a staff member but ran away on foot and was later recognised on CCTV footage.

Solicitor Patsy Gallagher said his client had both drink and drug problems and had fled Dublin to live in Ballybofey because he owed people money due to his former drug dependancy.

Brogan, from Ballymun in Dublin, is currently unemployed and spent most of his allowance on drink, the court was told.

Judge Paul Kelly fined him €150 and he was remanded in custody to face other charges in Dublin.
