Councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig has vowed to make Donegal’s islands and the promotion of tourism some of his main priorities for 2017.
He said that as 2016 draws to a close he would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
“I’m truly happy and appreciate all the support I have. I’ll always do my best with any issue that people come to me with and I’ll work as hard as in can to help.
“I have loads on the agenda for 2017, I’d like to make a push to promote tourism within the Gaeltacht and will be organising meetings in the coming months to see how we can develop our tourism. Another priority I have is the Islands, I’ve been doing work on the islands over the last couple of years and there are vital issues that need to be adressed which I will continue to push for.
“I will move motions at the Glenties Electoral Area that statues are erected to remember Eithne Coyle, Cumann na mBan from Cloughaneely and Socialist Republican Peadar O’ Donnell from Na Rosa.
“Also a motion at full council meeting on the issue of women and there right to choose as well as other motions on issues that effects people locally and nationally and also International motions on human rights and freedom. I will also continue to support political prisoners being held in British Jails here in Ireland and the 26 counties as well as continue to organise and support for a united Ireland.
“We are living in a historical time and just like 100 years ago we face an uncertain future . In 1917 the Bolshevik revolution showed that change is possible and people do not need to live like slaves under a capitalist system. I believe that we can organise our society for the benefit of everyone and not just a few elites. If we believe in ourselves and organise we can bring about a society that provides jobs for all, decent healthcare free at the point of entry and good education for all .
“We can end poverty and homelessness if we set out to do so and follow policies that benefit citizens not markets.”
