Man ordered to stay out of Inishowen following major disturbance

March 7, 2017

A man has been ordered to stay out of Inishowen.

Francis McDonagh, 19, appeared at Letterkenny District Court today.

He was arrested along with a juvenile in the Earlsfort Avenue area of Buncrana last night following a major disturbance in the area.

Gardai reinforcements had to be called into the area following the incident.

He was charged with a breach of the peace, failing to comply with the directions of Gardai and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour.

Gardai said they were not objecting to bail if McDonagh agreed to a number of conditions.

These include that McDonagh sign-on twice weekly at Letterkenny Garda station, that he supply Gardai with a mobile phone number, that he does not commit any other offence, that he stays alcohol and drug-free and that he stays out of Inishowen.

The court was told that McDonagh will stay at 4 College Row, Letterkenny.

Another juvenile appeared before Judge Paul Kelly arising out of the same incidents.

He was also charged with a breach of the peace, failing to comply with the directions of Gardai and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour.

Despite Garda objections, the court agreed to allow the man to live with his mother in Buncrana but ordered that the man observe a curfew between 9pm and 9am.

Inspector David Murphy objected to bail saying there was an “apprehension that what arose yesterday may happen again.”

The man was also ordered to sign on at Buncrana Garda station and to remain alcohol and drug-free.

The case has been adjourned to Buncrana District Court this Thursday.
