A special event to raise funds for Ballaghderg Special Needs Pre-school in Letterkenny will take place on Saturday night in Boston and anyone with a Donegal connection living in Boston is being urged to attend.

Southill Children’s Fund, which already raised $10,000 last year for Ballaghderg Pre-school, is hosting this event to raise additional funds for the school which serves the needs of children with physical and intellectual disabilities and with complex caring needs from all across Donegal.

Southill Children’s Fund donation of $10,000 was matched in 2016 by the then Cathaoirleach Cllr. Ciaran Brogan’s allocation of €5,000 from his Members Development Fund and the money went towards the cost of a multi-sensory room at Ballaghderg.

The multi-sensory room which is now in place has been tailored to suit the children’s individual needs. This multi-sensory space has enormous therapeutic benefits for the children in relaxation, sensory awareness, facilitating communication and managing their environment.

In her letter of thanks to Billy Higgins founder of the Southill Children’s Fund, Aishling Nibbs, mother of Órán who attended Ballaghderg Pre-school but who sadly passed away earlier this year said “you have no idea of the amount of enjoyment this room will bring the children allowing them to experience different sensations and feelings they would normally only be able to experience every couple of months”.

She concluded by thanking Mr. Higgins saying “I cannot thank you enough Mr. Higgins, for making such an amazing difference to the lives of the children who attend Ballaghderg Special Needs Pre-school, including my son Órán. Your wonderful gift has far-reaching implications in the lives of so many little children, for whom daily life is a battle and you will have given them so much joy and contentment”.

The event on Saturday night will take place at 7pm in the Irish Social Club of Boston in West Roxbury and will feature Erin’s Melody with Margaret Dalton. For more information on this event visit www.southillchildrensfund.com
