I’m not a dog owner but I can only imagine you have to give a lot of careful consideration when traveling in your car with your pet.
He or she may bark at passers-by and may not even be toilet-trained for your motor.
But no matter how well-trained they are, it kind of goes without saying that, like children, they must be safely fastened into their respective places in said vehicles.
So you can imagine my surprise (which quickly turned to horror) when I noticed a man in Letterkenny this morning driving with not one, not two but three dogs – on his lap.
I had to do a double-take as the three balls of white fluff bobbled their heads around the steering wheel.
This man was driving down the Back Road (Convent Road) as if he had ever right to give his pampered pooches pride of place.
Did he even what potential disaster he was just milliseconds from if one of the furball triplets had decided to leap from his lap or answer a call of nature?
Personally, he was responsible for himself and his three passengers.
But what about the dozens of schoolchildren passing his vehicle by in other cars and on the footpath?
Having a dog, or three dogs on your lap while driving a car is as irresponsible as driving with three children on your lap.
A simple appeal to this driver – put people’s safety before pampering your pooches.
