Independent Socialists and Republican County Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig and political activist Liam Whyte has shown solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners by putting the Palestinian flag.
The activists unfolded a banner in West Donegal which read “Boycott Israeli goods and End The Occupation of Palestine.”
As of yesterday 1800 prisoners were on hunger strike protesting over inhumane conditions.
The Donegal County Councillor said the vast majority of Irish people support the Palestinian cause mainly because we understand their plight through our own history of occupation.
Mac Giolla Easbuig said “It is important that we raise as much awareness of the Palestinian plight as possible and we should remember when Irish Republican prisoners went on hunger strike in similar circumstances the Palestinian people gave a lot of support to their cause”
Whyte added that the “Government continues to ignore Israeli aggression in Palestinian even though the majority of Irish citizens are appalled at Israel’s actions.
He said “I would encourage as many people as possible to pressure our government into action on the obvious human rights abuses of Israel. Please show support by flying the Palestinian flag.”
