County councillor elect, Adrian Glackin, has said that he intends to use the role to work to improve rural infrastructure and promote greater awareness around mental health problems.
The Glenswilly man will be co-opted onto Donegal County Council on 29th May.
Mr Glackin said “I am very much looking forward to become a county councillor and working behalf of my community as a Sinn Féin representative.
“Rural Donegal needs to be promoted. We need proper high speed broadband in order to promote rural businesses and create jobs.
“We also need to improve public transport in rural areas as it is virtually non-existent in many parts of the Letterkenny Municipal District. That is unacceptable in my view and something which I intend to work to have addressed.
“I am also deeply concerned by the inadequate services to support mental health sufferers in the county. Suicide in Donegal is a serious problem. We need greater supports and we need to seriously promote mental health wellbeing and create greater awareness around mental health.
“I fully intend to work with all public representatives, of all political persuasions, to work on these vitally important issues.”
