A computer graduate who has been described as a major player in the drugs business in Letterkenny has been jailed for fifteen months.

Vincent Whoriskey, who is already serving a sentence for drug dealing, appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

The 36-year-old, with an address at Burnside Apartments, Lower Main Street in Letterkenny, faced a range of charges of having drugs for sale and supply.

The drugs included cannabis, cannabis herb, MDNA, ecstasy and cocaine.

Gardai gave various statements about searching Whoriskey’s flat on several occasions and finding various quantities of drugs hidden there.

As well as large quantities of cash, a weighing scales and deal bags used to deal the drugs into various amounts were found.

Once arrested, Whoriskey admitted all offences.

Solicitor for the accused, Mr Frank Dorrian, said his client did not fit the profile of a man who dealt in drugs.

He said Whoriskey had a degree in Information Technology from University College Cork and worked all over England as a barman, a chef and a barber.

He said he arrived back in Ireland in 2012 and dabbled in a minor way in drugs but soon built up a debt of more than €10,000.

He admitted his client dealt in drugs but that “each transaction as intended to be his last.”

He was already serving a prison sentence, is now working as a chef in prison but plans to rejoin education when he gets out of prison.

Judge Paul Kelly took a sample of the charges and sentenced Whoriskey to a total of fifteen months in prison.
