Police in France are investigating the discovery of a dead baby on board a fishing trawler that has links to Donegal.
The boat on which the baby was found regularly lands catches at Killybegs, although this case is confirmed to have no connection to Ireland.
The Le Télégramme newspaper reports the newborn’s remains were discovered by a crew member in a shocking incident at port in France on Tuesday, 11th July.
Shortly after the baby was found in a freezer on the Scapêche freezer longliner, another two infants were found stored in freezers in an apartment in Lorient, north France.
French police have charged the alleged mother who is an employee of Scapêche. It is thought the babies were born at home in Larmor-Plage, France between 1998 and 2003.
The partner of the presumed mother, aged 50, is said to have not been aware of the pregnancies. Both parents of the babies are reportedly employees of Scapêche.
Police report that the mother had kept the three infants in her apartment until March 2017 before moving them temporarily to the vessel to be stored in a new apartment. The accused mother is currently in custody as investigations continue.
