Letterkenny District Court has one of the longest waiting times for the processing of court dates according to figures released by the Courts Service.
It can take anywhere from 20 to 24 weeks for a hearing to be scheduled at Letterkenny District Court following a criminal summons.
The Irish Times report that Dublin has the longest waiting times for criminal hearings, with a 26-week wait on average. The quickest dates are given in Tralee in County Kerry, which takes 8 to 12 weeks.
A period of 12 to 14 weeks is allocated for the servicing of the summons, which is outlined in an agreement with the Gardaí.
For civil cases, the average waiting time across the country is between 8 to 10 weeks.
In 2016, 113,724 new civil matters and 382,325 new criminal matters were lodged – 60% of which were related to road traffic offences.
