Letterkenny man appears in court on rape charges

August 17, 2017

A Letterkenny man has appeared in court charged with two counts of rape.

The man, who is in his 20s, was arrested by Gardai at New Line Road earlier today.

Detective Garda Grainne McLoone said she put two charges to the man but he made no reply to either.

The court was told the alleged offence happened on July 29th, 2016.

Garda Inspector Goretti Sheridan told Letterkenny District Court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had agreed to prosecution on indictment at the Central Criminal Court.

The court was told that gardai had no objection to bail.

However, a number of conditions were imposed including a cash lodgement of €2,000, that he provide a mobile phone number and that he have no contact with the alleged victim.

The case has been adjourned until next Thursday’s sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
