An overturned lorry sparked a major environmental incident in Barnesmore Gap last night.
The lorry, which contained cooking oil, overturned at the North end of the main road artery between Ballybofey and Donegal Town.
It later emerged that some of the load had seeped into the local River Eske sparking major concerns for wildlife in the area.
Donegal County Council were contacted over the matter and a full investigation and clean-up into the incident was launched overnight.
An environmental clean-up company, RAW, were tasked with setting up a boom in the area in a bid to stem the spread of the spill.
The incident is still under investigation.
