Donegal ETB has said that the future of three creches is not yet known after An Scoil Bheag in Gortahork was shut last week.
The €1m creche was closed due to a lack of demand, which led to uncertainty over the remaining three Donegal ETB creches in Buncrana, Letterkenny and Milford.
The board has confirmed that no final decision has been reached as yet regarding the future of the three crèches. The ETB have said a reduction in demand has arisen from increased crèche provision across the country.
A spokesperson for the board has said: “Donegal ETB is currently reviewing the creche provision attached to its Further Education and Training service. Recent legislative changes have resulted in increased numbers of creche places being made available more widely across the county, leading to a reduction in demand for ETB creche places.”
On the closure of An Scoil Bheag, a statement said: “Regretfully, the crèche attached to the Gort a’ Choirce ETB Further Education and Training Centre will close on 17 November 2017 but no final decision has been reached as yet regarding the future of the crèches in Buncrana, Milford and Letterkenny.”
