Michael McGrath has had his first Immunotherapy treatment after traveling to Vienna in Austria.
The 40-year-old schoolteacher from Letterkenny has captured the hearts of the people of Donegal and further afield as he battles cancer.
Michael, who is suffering from stage 4 bowel cancer, appealed to the public to get behind his campaign to raise up to €150,000 to have the treatment.
And the Donegal public and people around the world have responded magnificently by donating more than €112,000 in just over a week.
Wasting no time, Michael flew to Austria with sisters Mary and Bernadette on Saturday.
Michael’s sisters and wife Susan left a message on the Go Fund Me page earlier today.
It read “On behalf of Michael he wants us to give you all an update on how things are going in Vienna so far.
“We left Dublin on Saturday morning and had a smooth journey with no hiccups.
Today 11/12 Michael meet with his consultant and his team. This meeting went very well and everyone involved felt very positive about the road ahead.
“Wasting no time, Michael started his first therapy this afternoon.
“He once again wants us to thank you all from the bottom of his heart for making this possible and for all the support and love shown towards him.
Keep posted for more updates and please keep praying. Thank you so much
Susan, Mary and Bernadette x”
