The Dungloe Easter Sunday Parade was a major success as the town hosted a huge band parade and competition.

A parade full of colour and beautiful music entertained the thousands of viewers on Main Street.  Seventeen bands from across Donegal marched in the event, with the annual competition taking place afterwards.

The Maghery Fife & Drum Band was one of the many stand-out performances of the day. A video of the troupe is still making a big impact online, gaining over 36,000 views in a week.

It’s easy to see why, as the impressive routine is an amazing display of musical talent, choreography and teamwork. See the video by Mary Rodgers below:

The Senior Competitive Band were the Easter Champions 2018 with this winning show. They took home the awards for Best Drum Major, Best Band on Parade and they were the C Winners. The Maghery Junior Band also won Best Juniors.

Band Chairperson Annemarie O’Donnell said the total of views on this video is continuing to grow this week and has sparked interest from worldwide viewers.

Annemarie said: “This is an amazing feat for not only the coastal town of Dungloe but for the All Ireland Champions Maghery Fife & Drum Band. The band will be travelling for an East Coast USA tour next year visiting several states to perform for US audiences.

“It might not be what you call ‘viral’ but this type of publicity is great for the area. The Maghery band are no strangers to representing their small village, the town of Dungloe, Donegal and Ireland as a whole since they competed at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann and have been successful in competing on the International Stage at Limericks International band championship where they are the first Band in Donegal to claim international titles against Irish, European & US bands.”

The Band’s tour next year is highly anticipated stateside, Annemarie added, as they have an outstanding invitation dating back some 20 years.

She said: “The band have never been able to commit to such a trip in the past but this version of their senior competitive band having given great commitment and dedication have a strong committee behind them and following their continued growing success now look forward to following in their neighbours Dungloe bands footsteps to perform on 5th Avenue and other US states in March 2019.”
