James O’Donnell was thrilled to see Aodh Ruadh finally get off the mark with a Division 1 win at Milford yesterday.
David Dolan’s 2-4 and a Dylan Gallagher goal helped the Ballyshannon men to a 3-11 to 1-9 win at Moyle Park, hoisting the newly-promoted Erne-siders above Milford in the process.
“The pressure was on today after losing four-in-a-row,” O’Donnell said.
“I felt the boys were well focussed. There’s a good rivalry and battle between ourselves and Milford.
“We needed the win badly and we were on a slippery slope. We’re delighted to get two points on the board.”
Milford led by the minimum at the break, but Aodh Ruadh finished well and leave Milford searching for their first win.
Aodh Ruadh came up to the top flight again via winning Division 2 in 2017 – and it’s been a trying few weeks until now.
O’Donnell said: “You can play at 50 per cent and get something in Division 3 or 2, but you’ll be crucified here. We got a good hammering by Kilcar and that was a wake-up call. It’s all a learning curve and we have a young team, which helps.
“The strength of the squad is so important because it’s a long, long road.”
