Offensive Donegal nightclub billboard sparks outrage

An advertisement by an Inishowen nightclub has been met with widespread shock and criticism this weekend over its apparent objectification of women.

A large billboard appeared in Buncrana this week promoting Libertys Nightclub with an image and slogan that has been described as ‘sexist’, ‘misogynistic’ and ‘degrading’.

The billboard and Facebook advert depicts the back of a woman’s body with the saying “Libertys – Your 19th hole for the summer”.

There have been numerous calls for the poster to be taken down.

Donegal Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn strongly criticised the billboard as “just plain offensive to women” and “offensive to men who respect the women in their lives.”

He added: “If it was shock value publicity they were seeking, then mission accomplished. They need to cop themselves on, show some respect for our community and take it down!”

Libertys have yet to comment on the advertisement.
