Students all over Ireland and Co. Donegal have been opening envelopes with much nervousness and excitement today as the Leaving Cert 2018 results are released.
There were 2,112 students in Donegal sitting final exams this year, with 2,018 doing the traditional Leaving Cert and 104 sitting the Leaving Cert Applied exams.

Nationally, the State Examinations Commission said the results obtained this year are generally broadly in line
with those obtained in 2017.
Among the highest results recorded in the country are seven students achieving Higher Level Grade 1’s (90-100 per cent) in eight subjects.
The subject of Maths has come under much scrutiny today after more than 3,700 students failed their Leaving Cert papers. Passing Maths is a common requirement for entry into many third level courses.
Less than 10% of Ordinary Level Maths students failed their papers, while under 2% of Higher Level maths students didn’t make the mark.
There was a slight decrease in students earning the highest grade (H1) in the core subjects of English, Irish and Maths.
The overall number sitting the examinations is 57,149 in 2018. This was the first year for the new Politics and Society subject, with 867 candidates in 41 schools receiving their results this morning.
Students receiving results today can find detailed information about viewing their scripts and appealing their results in the 2018 Candidate Information Booklet which they received before the examinations commenced.
This booklet, also available from www.examinations.ie, https://www.examinations.ie/misc-doc/BI-CA-60294532.pdf explains the marking, viewing and appeals and post-appeals processes in an accessible question and answer format.
Locally, a helpline is operating at the Letterkenny Youth Information Centre for students who have questions about their results.
