Letterkenny woman warned not to ‘forget’ her next court appearance

August 17, 2018

A Judge has warned a Letterkenny woman not to ‘forget’ about her next court date.

Jacquline Bannister (52) of 18 Court Manor Apartments, Pearse Road, Letterkenny, appeared at Letterkenny District Court on foot of a bench warrant having failed to attend a hearing on April 9 last.

When asked by Judge Deirdre Gearty why she wasn’t present on the date in question, Ms Bannister replied: “I forgot”.

Ms Bannister is charged with being intoxicated in a public place and with using threading, abusive or insulting behaviour in a public place at Killylastin, Letterkenny, on March 24 and also with failing to attend court on April 9.

“You won’t forget about it this time,” Judge Gearty said.

“It is important that you turn up for court dates. The guards have enough to do without going out to bring you in for dates when you should be here anyway.”

Bannister is to appear before the September 14 sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

Judge Gearty told the accused – who represented herself in court – that she should reconsider taking legal advice.
