Presidential runner-up Peter Casey has deleted a video which caused uproar on social media in the past 24 hours.
The Donegal-based businessman shared a cartoon parody of his Late Late Show interview yesterday which stirred much debate and criticism.
The video, which was targetted at the Travelling community and RTE, was branded as ‘racist’ and ‘poor taste’.
Casey removed a retweet of the video this afternoon and attempted to reduce blame put on his former PR agency.
Bannerton PR was hit by backlash online after retweeting the video on their social media. The company later said it was shared by mistake and they no longer manage Casey’s campaign.
Casey told his Twitter followers that he is not responsible for the clip. He directed blame to the original producers, Happy Out, who published the video on Youtube on Sunday.
Casey tweeted: “I have removed the cartoon video from my account. I wish to state that Bannerton PR had nothing to do with this video. The content did not originate there and it is not supported by myself or Bannerton. Any enquiry should be directed to its producers.”
A statement from Bannerton PR said: “A video satirising Peter Casey’s Late Late Show appearance was mistakenly retweeted by Bannerton and has been withdrawn. The content did not originate in the company, is not supported by it, and cannot be linked to any employee or client.”
