January 2019 will see the beginning of major water mains upgrade works stretching from Ballybofey to Killygordon.
The project is expected to be one of the longest water main replacement undertakings in the county.
The Ballybofey Water Mains Rehab Project is a €1 million investment in the network, as part of the Donegal Countywide Water Mains Rehabilitation Project.
The planned start date is 21st January, according to Cllr Patrick McGowan, Cathaoirleach of the Stranorlar Municipal District.
Cllr McGowan has welcomed confirmation of the works, saying: “These works are urgently needed in the Finn Valley area, only last Sunday a large part of the Finn Valley was out of water all day on Sunday.
“The proposed works schedule and route map are clearly outlined,” he said.
Works will be carried out in two sections:
Starting 21st January, Irish Water will work between The Cross and Dreenan. Traffic lights will be in operation for the duration of works.
Phase two will begin in mid-March, taking place from Navenny to Finn Harps junction onto Meenglass Crossroads. This section is expected to be maned as a stop- go system.
The Creamery Road to Sessiaghoneill crossroads will require a road closure which will be advertised in advance.
Cllr McGowan has requested that the public would be consulted on traffic and work schedules nearer the start time. He has also asked the water company to ensure that local business will be contacted individually to give time to make arrangements.
