Protests today for arrested Donegal man

January 18, 2019

A protest will be held today at Castlerea Prison against the detention of Donegal man PJ Sweeney.

Mr Sweeney, aged 57, of Ramelton, was remanded in custody after being charged with violent disorder at Strokestown on December 16th last.

A group called ‘Yellow Vest Ireland – Donegal’ has organised today’s protest but stressed that the protest will be peaceful.

Mr Sweeney, a well-known developer, was arrested in Donegal last Friday, January 11th and then taken to Castlerea District Court where he was remanded in custody.

The charge of violent disorder against Mr Sweeney relate to an eviction which took place before Christmas following a High Court order.
