Emergency services are at the scene of a fire at the Dry Arch Roundabout in Letterkenny tonight.

A Bus Eireann Expressway bus was departing Letterkenny for Dublin when it encountered mechanical issues. There were 15 passengers onboard.

Passengers reported hearing “small explosions” as the bus travelled out of the town. As soon as smoke appeared onboard, one passenger opened the side door and all passengers fled the vehicle.

The bus burst into flames on the roundabout at approximately 8.30pm.

The roundabout, which is the main artery into Letterkenny and the Four Lane route, is closed as fire services tackle the blaze.

Gardaí are currently managing traffic in the area.

It is understood that all passengers were evacuated from the bus with their luggage and have been safely transported to Letterkenny bus station via a second vehicle. They are now due to be taken to Dublin via a back-up vehicle.

No serious injuries have been reported.

Updates to follow.
