A St.Johnston man ran through gardens and led Gardai on an LA Law-type chase to get away.

Christopher Orr, 19, was finally caught after he did a runner after being found by Gardai hiding in gardens in Newtowncunningham on October 31st last.

Orr, of Trentamucklagh, St Johnston, fled when approached by Garda Thomas Hurley after reports that somebody was rallying on the Mill Road at about 11.40pm.

When he was finally caught, Orr shouted at Gardai “I hate you f***ing guards. I wonder if you can afford new windows”.

When Orr was searched he was also found to be carrying a small amount of cannabis.

Garda Inspector Kevin Gately told Judge Seamus Hughes that Orr was already in breach of bail terms as he had ignored a curfew that he stay at home between 11pm and 8am.

Defending solicitor Patsy Gallagher said his client had a drink and drug problem but now had the support of his mother and was trying to sort himself out.

Orr, who pleaded guilty to trespass and possessing cannabis,  also had a number of previous convictions going back to when he was just 15 years old.

Judge Hughes (pictured) said the chase through the gardens was like something TV viewers would see in LA Law and that Orr had finally “run out of road.”

He adjourned sentencing Orr until January 20th next to see if Orr was suitable for 240 hours community service or two months in prison.
