GLENTIES Ulster Championship final with Crossmaglen Rangers will now go ahead next Sunday after the weekend match was postponed because of a frozen pitch in Clones.
But with the weather forecast for the week expected to see more snow and sub-zero temperatures, it’s feared the game could be postponed again.
That will raise questions about using Clones as the venue in the first place.
There is little doubt that Celtic Park in Derry or even Casement Park in Belfast would have been better venues for both the Naomh Chonall side and Crossmaglen.
The GAA however persists, and continues to insist, on selling Clones to all who will listen as the ‘capital’ when it comes to Ulster finals.
When the throw-in does take place – this Sunday or next – the Glenties men will be bidding to become only the second county side to ever win a provincial senior title. St Joseph’s were the first – way back in 1975!
Cross are overwhelming favourites to win the game, but the underdog tag will suit the Donegal lads.
And the postponement will allow Glenties forward Dermot Molloy even more time to recover from a knee injury.
