DONEGAL NORTH EAST TD Joe McHugh rushed from the maternity ward to the Dail and back again yesterday as he balanced the birth of his second child with a vote against the Government bail-out..

His wife and fellow TD Olwyn Enright gave birth Aedin, a baby girl, who weighed in at seven pounds, four ounces at 10:20am yesterday at Portiuncula Hospital in Co Galway. Ms Enright is retiring at the next General Election.

Mr McHugh brought his wife to the hospital, just a half-hour from her home in Birr, Co Offaly, at 1:30am on Tuesday night.

After the birth, TD McHugh went back to Dublin to vote against the Government’s motion on the bailout.
