THOUSANDS OF home across the county face being without water for days, donegaldaily.com can reveal.
As restrictions continue throughout the county – many of the switch-offs are overnight – we have learned that Donegal County Council are concerned at how the shortages could hit businesses when many return to work next week.
“It is vital that we restrict these supplies,” one council insider told us.
“If we didn’t do this, we would quickly run out of water in many areas.”
Today the council again appealed for people to conserve water.
“Once again the co-operation of every community is required if we are to avert widespread shortages in water supplies,” said a County Council spokesman.
It is one of a number of headaches facing the Council – the Big Chill has left hundreds of potholes on many roads throughout the county.
The water shortages are a massive headache for businesses, particularly hotels, pubs and restaurants.
Homeowners too are being hit by the thaw, with burst pipes, wrecked heating systems – and guttering wrecked by falling ice.
